The original bank opened its doors to the public in 1943 as the Commercial State Bank in Hoskins, Nebraska. It soon became a strong force in Northeast Nebraska banking and would later find it necessary to expand. A loan production office was opened in 1990 in Norfolk, Nebraska. To meet the growing demands of the public, Elkhorn Valley Bank was chartered in 1993 as a full-service bank. Commercial State Bank and Elkhorn Valley Bank merged in 1997 to form what is now known as Elkhorn Valley Bank & Trust.
The facility located at 800 West Benjamin Avenue in Norfolk was completed in July 1997 and served as the headquarters for the bank for many years. As the demand for more locations increased, more branches were built. In April 2000, a bank located at 1010 Omaha Avenue was unveiled. The Omaha Avenue location is home to the Elkhorn Valley Trust department as well as an Elkhorn Agency Insurance Agent.
Soon thereafter, another location opened inside the HyVee East grocery store providing convenience and extended hours to customers. Later in April of 2005 an additional full-service branch was added in Norfolk at 2401 Taylor Avenue, a branch at HyVee West in 2008, and in the summer of 2012, construction of a new full-service facility in Pierce.
Returning to the original roots in Wayne County, a full-service branch was opened in February of 2015 to provide the customers of Wayne and the surrounding communities banking and lending services as well as insurance and investment assistance through Elkhorn Agency and Elkhorn Valley Investments. In the spring of 2020, the Albion Loan Production Office was opened in Albion, Nebraska. The Albion office also hosts Elkhorn Agency agents. Elkhorn Valley Bank expanded for the first time to another state in 2021 with the opening of a branch in Yankton, South Dakota located at 114 Douglas Avenue, Suite 5.
After many years of growth, Elkhorn Valley Bank was again needing to expand. A new location was opened in Norfolk at 404 South 25th Street that will serve as the headquarters for many years to come. In addition to the friendly banking specialists and experienced lenders, this full-service location also provides wealth management services through Elkhorn Valley Investments and insurance services with the Elkhorn Agency.
